The second series of American Crime Story has found its UK home, as The Assassination of Gianni Versace will be aired on BBC Two next year.

BBC Two aired the first American Crime Story, Emmy and BAFTA-winning The People vs OJ Simpson, last year, and the follow-up has now been scheduled to land on the same channel in 2018.

Versace's premiere date in the US is tentatively set for early 2018, and it should follow in the UK not too long after.

The upcoming Versace will adapt the true crime book Vulgar Favors, which detailed the manhunt for serial killer Andrew Cunanan after he murdered Versace on the steps of the designer's Miami mansion in 1997.

The Bourne Ultimatum's Édgar Ramírez will play the legendary designer with big-screen superstar Penelope Cruz playing Gianni's grieving sister Donatella.

Also starring in the series are Ricky Martin as Versace's long-time partner Antonio D'Amico, Glee actor Darren Criss as killer Cunanan and American Horror Story's Max Greenfield in an unconfirmed role.

American Crime Story creator Ryan Murphy originally planned for the second series to centre on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but it was announced that Versace had overtaken Katrina as the second season to air back in June after filming on Katrina was delayed.

Since then, the FX series has fought off rumours that the Katrina season might not happen at all with a confirmation that the project was still moving ahead with a significant overhaul – including a complete cast reboot (but still keeping Sarah Paulson, naturally).

Meanwhile, Versace has been filming for months now and is set to premiere around the time Katrina is due to start filming.

American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace premieres on FX in the US in 2018. BBC Two will air the show in the UK.
