'Bear-Proof' Trash Can Proves Its Worth at North Carolina Home

A bear’s search for a morning snack was hampered by a “bear-proof” trash can in Asheville, North Carolina, on Friday, March 29.

Home security footage from David Oppenheimer, who says his home is regularly visited by bear, shows a bear dragging a large, green trash can and knocking it over, hoping the contents would spill out.

Oppenheimer said the can has metal brackets to lock the lid and stop bears gaining access.

“It is early spring so I think the bears are just getting used to realizing that they are not getting into my trash can,” said Oppenheimer. “Yet I still find it amusing when I see a bear walking with my trash can,” he added.
