The Bear star Jeremy Allen White has shut down a major fan theory for season three, confirming there will be no romance between his character Carmy and Ayo Edebiri’s Sydney.

Last year’s second season of the hit FX show, which is on streaming service Disney+ in the UK, saw the two chefs grow closer as they worked to get their titular restaurant a Michelin star, sparking theories from fans about a potential romance between the pair in season three.

However, White has now firmly quashed those theories, telling TVLine that there hasn’t been any talk of Sydney and Carmy’s friendship evolving into something more in the writers’ room.

"No, there is no talk in the rooms about any romantic implication," he said.

Last year, Edebiri also weighed in on fan hopes for a romance between the two chefs, calling it "frustrating".

"It’s really not our thought process when we’re making the show, and I understand it can be part of a show’s culture — but I don’t think they’re going to get what they want," she explained.

Discussing the relationship between Sydney and Carmy, the Inside Out 2 actor added: "I think it’s incredibly cool to have this dynamic onscreen that isn’t romantic, but that feels charged and sexy."

The Bear is set return for its anticipated third season on June 27, with White and Edebiri reprising their respective roles as Carmy and Sydney alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie.

Moss-Bachrach recently shared that he sometimes struggles with the attention he receives from fans of the show, which has been a runaway hit and swept the Primetime Emmy Awards last year.

"I get a lot of comments," he told The Guardian. "People yell 'Cousin!' at me all day. Sometimes, you know, you’re just not having a great day. And it’s just like, 'I’m sorry, man, I don’t have much for you'."

The Bear season 3 airs on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ in the UK on June 27. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream now.
