Beauty giant Sephora has announced that it will open a new store at the Metrocentre in early September.

The Metrocentre confirmed in June that Sephora was set to open a store in the Lower Platinum Mall, branding the new addition the "world's worst kept secret" on its social media pages. Sephora has now confirmed the news, giving an approximate opening date of early September.

The beauty giant's arrival in the region was announced in March, with Sephora set to open a new 6,600sqft store in Eldon Square this autumn. That is only the fourth shop in the UK, with the other three branches split between London and Manchester.

Sarah Boyd, managing director of Sephora UK, said: "Continuing our trend of listening to our customers and where they want to see us open, we heard the beauty community of the North East loud and clear.

"Metrocentre is one of the largest retail destinations across Europe, and joining the booming shopping centre is an exciting chapter in our continued expansion in the UK. We cannot wait to welcome all the passionate beauty lovers of the region to our store and creating an iconic moment for retail in the North East."

Metrocentre has listed a number of job vacancies at Sephora ahead of the arrival of new store, including fragrance, skincare and make-up supervisors, beauty advisors, and brow and beauty experts, with closing dates at the start of August. Those interested can find out more about each vacancy and apply on the shopping centre's website here.

Ben Cox, director at Sovereign Centros, the company which runs the Metrocentre, added: "Sephora is one of the most talked about retailers within the industry and its ambitious expansion plans across the UK have sparked a real excitement amongst consumers. Sephora will be a fantastic addition to Metrocentre."

Sephora operates more than 2,700 stores across 35 countries worldwide, with a mission to "create a welcoming beauty shopping experience for all and inspire fearlessness in our community". Owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, a global luxury goods group, Sephora was founded in France by Dominique Mandonnaud in 1970.
