Work has begun on the construction of a new £16million care home in a west Suffolk town.

Staff from Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company (RMBI Care Co) celebrated the beginning of work to build a new care home at Cornwallis Court in Bury St Edmunds on Friday.

Plans were approved in January to build the new care home at the existing 68-bedroom site run by the care home provider RMBI Care Co.

The new care home will be built in phases to enable current residents to continue living and in the existing building before moving across to the new home.

The new home will then provide residential care, nursing and dementia support for up to 64 people.
