Dua Lipa has discussed the influence of psych music and Britpop on her third album in a new behind-the-scenes video from her Rolling Stone UK cover shoot.

The singer appears on the cover of issue 15 of Rolling Stone UK, and you can read the full cover story online here.

In the cover feature, Lips spoke of how her upcoming “psychedelic-pop-infused” album is inspired by the likes of Primal Scream and Massive Attack, and in the BTS video she told Rolling Stone UK more about these influences.

She said this psych music gives her “a real feeling of freedom,” adding: “You get a lot of that from a lot of Britpop music, which I’m super inspired by. Even though I wasn’t really around for that era, I always feel like I dipped my toes into something nostalgic, and that feels right.”

She added: “For me, it’s more the unapologetic feeling that Britpop really had. There was a real sense of self and confidence that I love. Being raised in Camden, all those inspirations were such a big part of all the musicians that came in and out of Camden, and the live music that happened around there. That was super inspiring to me.”

Lipa went on to discuss her love for Primal Scream’s ‘Loaded’ in particular, saying that it gives her the feeling of “your heart exploding with emotion”.

“It’s the feeling that I want people to feel when they listen to my music,” she added. “The ‘Loaded’ Andy Weatherall mix for Primal Scream lives in my mind rent free.”

This week, Lipa also teased a new single called ‘Training Season’, which will arrive on February 15 as the second preview of the singer’s upcoming third album following psych-tinged first track ‘Houdini’.
