Translink have announced details of lane closures in Belfast city centre from next week as part of continuing works for the new Grand Central Station.

Construction of Northern Ireland's flagship infrastructure project continues to progress at pace and is set to open to the public this autumn.

According to Translink, delivering a project of this scale includes delivering utility connections as well as significant investment in public realm improvement works to enhance pedestrian safety, walking routes, accessibility and cycling.

To install footpath extensions and enhancements to crossings at the Great Victoria Street/Grosvenor Road/Howard Street junction, various lane closures are required on Great Victoria Street, Grosvenor Road, Howard Street and Fisherwick Place on the following dates:

  • Commencing Monday 15th July for around 8 weeks.

During this time, lane closures will be in place at off-peak times between 9:30am and 4pm. An inbound and outbound lane will always remain open on all roads at this junction during these works.

To facilitate essential NI Water works to connect a Fire Mains, there'll be a closure of the northbound lane on Durham Street for one day on:

  • Wednesday 17th July

To enable the installation of new pedestrian crossing points, there'll also be a closure of all country bound lanes on Grosvenor Road between Durham Street and the Westlink on the following date:

  • Sunday 21st July

An alternative route will be signposted with traffic being diverted via Grosvenor Road, Fisherwick Place, College Square East, College Avenue, Divis Street and Falls Road. One city bound lane will remain open throughout the day.

To facilitate essential utility works to install connections to the new Belfast Grand Central Station, there will be a closure of the westbound slip road from Durham Street onto Grosvenor Road on the following dates:

  • 6pm on Saturday 3rd August to 6am Monday 5th August

An alternative route will be signposted with traffic being diverted via Durham Street, College Square North, College Avenue, Divis Street, Falls Road and Grosvenor Road.

A Translink spokesperson said: "These road and lane closures are essential to enable these works to be carried out efficiently and safely. Translink is encouraging people to consider using public transport to access the city during these works as road users may expect some delays.

"Passengers should check the website www.translink.co.uk or Journey Planner before they travel and allow some extra time for their journey. Translink would like to take this opportunity to thank the general public for their patience during these essential works."
