Belfast West General Election candidates battling for votes on July 4

There are 10 candidates hoping for the votes of people in the Belfast West constituency.

After the 2023 Review of Parliamentary Constituencies, Derriaghy, Dunmurry, Falls, Shankill and Woodvale now fully fall within this constituency. Sinn Féin have dominated this seat since Gerry Adams won the poll in 1997 with 55.9% of the vote.

In 2019, Paul Maskey won with a vote share of 53.8% and a majority of 14,672 over People Before Profit’s Gerry Carroll - Belfast West is the best performing constituency for People Before Profit

Jay Slater's family has hit back at a TikToker who quit the search for the missing teenager, saying: "We don't need hikers, we need experts." Callum Fahim, who flew to Tenerife after contacting the 19-year-old's mother online, told Sky News he has withdrawn after two weeks of looking - and receiving death threats. Speaking to Sky News, Mr Slater's family said his mother Debbie Duncan gave Mr Fahim £740 of her own money for accommodation but he turned "bitter" after they refused to give him more money.

Five men arrested after woman's body discovered at bungalow
Five men have been arrested after the body of a woman was discovered at a bungalow in Leicester. Police officers made the grim discovery following a call of concern for a woman at an address in Radiant Road, Thurncourt, at 6am yesterday (Thurs). She was pronounced dead at the scene and five men - aged 35, 39, 39, 48 and 48 - have been arrested and remain in custody being quizzed by detectives. Leicestershire Police has not said what the men have been arrested on suspicion of and investigations are ongoing.
