He’s still a kid and we make mistakes, this mistake is a bad one. But I don’t want some 17 year old's whole life ruined because he wasn’t thinking straight and being a dumbass.”“Plus, he’s obviously smart so if he got on the right side of the tracks he could actually possibly help our community and be an alliance. As those affected, including Jennifer Lawrence, began to fight back against those circulating their private images, the conversation began to change with revenge porn being made a criminal offence in the UK the following year.Other actresses who have spoken out against revenge porn include Mischa Barton, who won a landmark revenge porn lawsuit in 2017 after her ex-boyfriend Jon Zacharias distributed sexual video footage filmed on hidden cameras without her consent.Following her nude photo leak in 2014, Lawrence told Vanity Fair, “I started to write an apology [for my nude photographs], but I don’t have anything to say I’m sorry for. I was in a loving, healthy, great relationship for four years... Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting.”For more information on what revenge porn is and how to seek help if you have been affected, Revenge Porn Helpline operates a phone hotline at 03456 000 459 and a website with additional resources.
