Beloved North Yorkshire shop closes doors for final time after 40 years

A York shop has closed its doors for the last time after 40 decades.

P and S Hobbies and Models has closed its York store in Walmgate after four decades of trading. The beloved store closed after the building was sold to a property redeveloper. Plans are reportedly in place to turn the shop into flats.

Paul and Sue Lamming, who also have a branch in Scarborough which is remaining open - posted on Saturday: "Last day open in York today as we say goodbye to the superb and wonderful customers we have met over the last forty plus years . Sue and I thank each and every one of you for your support loyalty and friendship. We shall miss you all and we thank you all for making our efforts all worth while. You have been the very best customers that anyone could ever wish for.

"We thank you all and say you would be all welcome to our original shop in Scarborough where it has finally been restored after severe flooding two years ago..

"Sue and I will always welcome you as we settle down to a less stressful life and a really big thank you for making our venture work, you have been the best customers anyone could ever want a big thank you to you all."

The post was met with well wishes from customers who have travelled far and wide to visit the shop. One said: "Look forward to seeing you both at Scarborough. Sad day for you. Wishing you every success at the smart rebuilt shop."

Another said: "Sad news, but glad you're carrying on in Scarborough! Best G Scale dealer around, and in my opinion. Not many people can say they've had the same 'job' for 40 years. Now, please have a holiday!"

Another customer added: "Thank you for many years of your hard work making happy memories for so many people. Best wishes for your future and hopefully you can carry on elsewhere in more suitable premises."
