Benidorm movie on the way, after show gets axed
Benidorm could be heading for the big screen, after it was axed from ITV earlier this year.
Former Coronation Street star Sherrie Hewson, who played the hotel boss Joyce Temple-Savage in the sitcom, appears to have let the plans slip.
“There may just be a film coming,” she told The Daily Star On Sunday.
“That’s a bit of an inside scoop! It will be happening, it’ll just be a bit different. But it will still be fabulous. I can’t wait.”
There’s no official word from show creator Derren Litten, though a Benidorm live show arrives in Manchester next week, with Hewson among those appearing on stage.
The series first aired in 2007, running through 10 seasons before being cancelled in May this year.
Along the way, it featured a host of famous guest stars from Joan Collins to Cilla Black, as well as picking up a number of National Television Awards and BAFTA nominations.
Litten confirmed the show’s cancellation with a tweet in April.
“Crazy to think Wednesday will be the last episode of Benidorm!” he wrote.
“I created the series over 11 years ago, wrote it, guest starred in it and ended up directing it. It’s difficult to think what else there is to do! Thank you for watching! #MuchasGracias.”
