Garter Day is here!
Each year in June, the members of the Order of the Garter gather in Windsor for a traditional ceremony full of pomp and circumstance. As the royal family notes, it is " is one of the most traditional ceremonies in the Royal calendar." at which, "the King and the Knights process in grand velvet robes, glistening insignia and plumed hats."
Typically, most members of the royal family attend—in fact, many senior working members of the royal family are Knights and Ladies of the Order. And as of today, Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, is one the newest inductees. However, Kate Middleton (who is not a member of the Order) was not among those in attendance today.
This weekend, at Trooping the Colour 2024, the Princess of Wales made her first public appearance of the year as she continues to receive cancer treatment. In a letter released on Friday, Kate wrote, that she hopes "to join a few public engagements over the summer," but equally she is "not out of the woods yet." She adds, "I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal." So it comes as no surprise that the Princess was not among those in attendance at Garter Day in Windsor today.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh looked lovely in a pink floral dress. She was joined by Princess Anne's husband, Sir Timothy Laurence. As neither are members of the Order, they watched the procession together.

Prince William was made a member of the Order in 2008. Kate Middleton is not a member, but over the years, she has attended to watch the procession. She did not go this year as she continues to receive cancer treatment.
