Calling all passengers: Black Friday is about to take off.

The annual shopping bonanza is just weeks away, and just like years past, the event will offer discounts across the board on every imaginable product, from mattresses to makeup, air fryers to Apple products.

And, as well as physical products, the mega sale now extends to a host of services and experiences.

What is Black Friday?

Sometime in the 70s, American retailers began throwing post-Thanksgiving sales, taking advantage of the fact families were together by offering deep discounts. The idea caught on, because while we may not celebrate Thanksgiving on these shores, bargain-hunting is a universally adored sport.

When is Black Friday 2022?

The sale is always on the last Friday of November - this year that’s the 25th. However with stiff competition, many retailers launch early sales with offers available as early as November 1.

When is Cyber Monday 2022?

Black Friday may have started out as a single-day affair but it’s now a weekend long event with Cyber Monday bringing things to a close. This year it’s on November 28 and is considered the designated day to scoop discounts on all things tech.

While you can get a headstart on New Year’s resolutions with a cut-price gym membership, save on a new broadband package, or treat yourself to a luxury spa day for less, the deals that are really making us stop and stare are the travel ones.

What were the best deals from Black Friday weekend last year?

After a year and a half of lockdowns, many shoppers were desperate for a holiday - and travel companies did not disappoint. While most airlines offered discounts, low-cost carrier Ryanair stole the limelight with BOGOF flights, while easyJet rolled back the prices on 80,000 seats to as little as £19.99. WizzAir reduced tickets by 40 per cent.

Meanwhile Hotels.com wiped off the cost of some rooms by a whopping 70 per cent, turning Black Friday into Break Friday.

What kinds of deals can we expect this year?

Our fingers are crossed tight for a repeat performance of last year’s BF travel deals. With airport chaos causing flight cancellations this summer, we expect many carriers will use the Black Friday sale to recoup their losses.
