Bethnal Green and Stepney General Election 2024 results

Labour has held the constituency of Bethnal Green and Stepney in the 2024 General Election. The elected candidate Rushanara Ali won by a majority of 1,689 votes.

Ms. Ali secured 15,896 votes in the poll, ahead of the Independents candidate Ajmal Masroor in second place, who received 14,207 votes.

Residents in Bethnal Green and Stepney went to the polls on Thursday 4th July to choose the candidate who will serve as their MP in the next Parliament.

Counting of the General Election votes began after polls closed at 10pm on Thursday night, and the result in Bethnal Green and Stepney was published by the Press Association at 04:44 am on Friday

A total of 81,922 people were eligible to vote in Bethnal Green And Stepney, and of these 46,647 decided to complete a ballot paper, which meant the turnout in the constituency was 56.9 per cent.

The turnout figure in Bethnal Green and Stepney was down compared to the last general election in 2019, when 64.9 per cent of the electorate used their vote.

  • Rushanara Ali (Labour) - 15,896 votes (34.1%).

  • Ajmal Masroor (Independents) - 14,207 votes (30.5%).

  • Phoebe Gill (Green party) - 6,391 votes (13.7%).

  • Rabina Khan (Liberal Democrats) - 4,777 votes (10.2%).

  • Peter Sceats (Reform) - 1,964 votes (4.2%).

  • Oscar Reaney (Conservatives) - 1,920 votes (4.1%).

  • Vanessa Hudson (AWP) - 348 votes (0.7%).

  • Sham Uddin (Independents) - 325 votes (0.7%).

  • Md Somon Ahmed (Independents) - 315 votes (0.7%).

  • Reggie Adams (Independents) - 271 votes (0.6%).

  • Jon Mabbutt (Soc Dem) - 233 votes (0.5%).

Most UK constituencies have changed boundaries or names since the last General Election but analysis of previous results based on the 2024 boundaries for Bethnal Green and Stepney shows that Labour won 20,824 fewer votes than in 2019.

At the 2019 General Election Labour won 73.5 per cent of the votes cast, and in the 2024 election the party's vote share decreased to 34.1 per cent.

Independents had a vote share of per cent in 2019 and this rose to a 30.5 per cent vote share in 2024.
