Beverley Knight EXCLUSIVE: Bodyguard star fears life is imitating art after car was set alight

Beverley Knight has opened up for the first time about the horror of her car mysteriously going up in flames outside her London home earlier this month.

The Bodyguard star was moved into a hotel following fears of an arson attack and was given extra security measures including her ‘own bodyguard’.

Speaking to Yahoo! Celeb at the Nordoff Robbins Boxing Dinner, Beverly revealed: ‘I’ve been kept in suspense as I’m having ongoing tests on the car and having to wait to find out what happened.

Despite it maybe being a case of ”life imitating art’ for the Wolverhampton-born soul singer – the diva character she plays in the Bodyguard was also the victim of a scary attack – she says nothing will stop her from performing on stage.

She said: “I just have to get on with it. The whole incident has been a horrible shock and I can’t pretend that it was anything but that. But I have a stage I need to get on every night and that I shall do.

Beverley currently stars as leading lady Rachel Marron in the West End stage adaptation of The Bodyguard at The Dominion Theatre.

Rachel is a pop music superstar whose life becomes threatened when it seems that one of her fans is stalking her. She turns to former Secret Service agent-turned-bodyguard Frank Farmer for protection.

The role was first made famous on screen by Whitney Houston in the epic 1992 film.

Talking about the part Beverley said: “The Bodyguard is insane when the curtain goes up and l look out into audience I always know it’s going to be another busy one.

“2017 is looking to be a great year, I’ll be in The Bodyguard until the first week of January then I’m off to Canada for three months.”

Beverley is a keen supporter of Nordoff Robbins, the largest independent music therapy charity dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and isolated people across the UK.

The songstress says music is one of the saving graces in her life and said: “Music is my therapy I really don’t know what I would do if I didn’t turn to music.”
