Beyoncé Shares Her Nightly Hair Routine, from Applying Oil to Wearing a Bonnet with 'Cute Rollers'

Beyoncé, who released her Cécred haircare brand on Feb. 20, opened up about her routine for Essence's 2024 March/April issue

Beyoncé fans take note: the beauty icon just shared her haircare routine.

The megastar opened up about her regimen in the March/April issue of Essence, which she gracefully covered to celebrate the launch of her haircare brand Cécred.

“It’s all about moisture for me—adding oil to my scalp and covering my hair at night so the oils could penetrate,” Mrs. Knowles-Carter, 42, told the outlet, adding, “It brings back such great memories of my rituals as a child to maintain a healthy scalp.”

Beyoncé also shared that she wraps her hair up at night, she sometimes sleeps “in some cute rollers with a net or bonnet,” depending on how she’s wearing her hair.

Her techniques all serve the purpose of trying to “avoid friction, my hair reverting and using unnecessary heat.”

Finally, the BeyHive can follow her process, as Cécred launched Tuesday.

The brand draws on a myriad of inspirations, from rituals around the globe to everything her mother Tina Knowles (a trained hairdresser who joins the brand as vice chairwoman) and she have learned about hair over the years.

The eight-piece Foundation collection includes a Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub ($38) a Hydrating Shampoo ($30), a Moisturizing Deep Conditioner ($38) a Reconstructing Treatment Mask ($42), a Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual ($52 for 4 treatments), a Moisture Sealing Lotion ($38), a Nourishing Hair Oil ($44) and a Ritual Shaking Vessel ($20 USD) which is to be used to mix the fermented rice and rose protein powder.

Beyoncé also opened up to Essence about the beauty of self-care and self-expression.

“[Black women] can wear our hair natural, straight, braids, weaves and wigs. There’s power in self-expression and in feeling free to show up as we choose, in whatever hair we choose,” she said. “For me, joy comes from making myself a priority and making my hair a priority. It is really important for me to make time for the sacred rituals of self-care.”
