A knife-throwing contestant on Britain's Got Talent has admitted that he was worried he'd "seriously injure" Simon Cowell during an on-air stunt.

For some reason, as you'll see in tonight's episode (April 20), Simon decided to take the place of Andrei Gomonov’s usual assistant on stage and allow knives to be thrown at him.

Judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams looked on in horror as the knives slammed into the board around Simon's body – none of which fatally wounded him, luckily.

But after the stunt, Andrei confessed that he was worried about Simon's safety because he didn't know if he'd suddenly move.

"This was high stakes. It was more dangerous because I didn’t know what Simon would do," he said. "I know my partner. She knows not to be scared and not to move.

"But I didn’t know if Simon might move. I worried I might leave him seriously injured. I had small nerves. I’m a professional, I must be ready and keep my focus."

It's fair to say BGT is upping the drama this series. Last week, the show aired potentially its most daring act ever, as escape artist Jonathan Goodwin worked his way out of a straitjacket while hanging upside-down... and set on fire.

"This looks like it's going to be quite dangerous, one to ten, how dangerous?" Simon asked him before the performance commenced. Jonathan replied: "This is a good ten, yeah."

Suffice to say, he pulled off the Harry Houdini-inspired trick in style, much to the amazement of the judges and everyone watching at home.

Britain's Got Talent will air Simon's knife-defying stunt tonight (April 20) at 8pm on ITV.
