Young Sheldon spoilers follow.

Another The Big Bang Theory spin-off is in the works, starring Young Sheldon's Montana Jordan and Emily Osment.

According to TVLine, CBS is nearing a direct-to-series order for the show, which will focus on Sheldon Cooper's older brother Georgie (Jordan) and his bride-to-be Mandy (Osment).

The spin-off will pick up directly from Young Sheldon's ending, after it was announced that the hit comedy will be concluding with its seventh season.

Georgie and Mandy met in season five of the prequel, where they began a relationship while lying about their ages. Mandy later gets pregnant and gives birth to their daughter Constance in season six, with the couple getting engaged soon after.

In comparison to Young Sheldon, which used a single-camera format, the upcoming Georgie spin-off will be filmed as a multi-camera sitcom that is shot in front of a live audience – replicating Big Bang.

Chuck Lorre will pen the show's script, alongside Young Sheldon co-creator Steven Molaro and current showrunner Steve Holland. Deals are currently being fleshed out, with CBS hoping to secure a 13-episode series – aiming for release in the 2024-25 season.

Lorre recently appeared on The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast, where he explained the decision to end the fan-favourite prequel.

"The story of this extraordinary prodigy in a small town outside of Houston, in a family where he is very much a fish out of water – that story we've kind of told, and the remainder of his path leading up to The Big Bang Theory happens at CalTech, in California," he said.

"Seven years... [it] seems like the natural lifespan of [Young Sheldon], and that was a feeling that was shared between myself and both Steve Molaro and Steve Holland, who have been instrumental in keeping this thing as extraordinary as it has been."

Young Sheldon airs on CBS in the US, and is also shown in the UK on E4. You can buy The Big Bang Theory complete boxset now on DVD and Blu-ray.
