'Big Brother' host Emma Willis says show needs 'a bit more of a rest' before reboot

Emma Willis has poured cold water on the prospect of a Big Brother reboot, suggesting that the reality TV show should stay dormant for a while longer.

Reports emerged earlier this year that Big Brother could be set for a reboot, with ITV reportedly pursuing a possible return for the show.

Willis took over the presenting gig on the reality behemoth in 2013 and fronted the final series in 2018, but told This Morning earlier this week that she wouldn't be keen to see it back just yet.

Willis told Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond that she knows "absolutely nothing" about the reboot, but would like to see a "new era, new host".

Willis said: "I miss it so much. I think we all know how much we all loved it. But I do think it needs longer. It needs a bit more of a rest, I think."

The presenter said that the show's biggest asset was "how real it was", at a time when reality TV was populated by ordinary people rather than influencers in training.

She added: "I think if you go back to day dot when it first started and how it just took all of us by storm, it was just phenomenal.

"If it could do that again and if it went back to that, it would be amazing."

Willis has taken on a number of high-profile presenting gigs since Big Brother came to an end, fronting talent show The Voice UK as well as reality show The Circle.

She added that "hopefully there's somebody beavering away" on a new version of Big Brother in order to do justice to the show among its fans.

"I think it will come back when it's ready, maybe it's not ready yet. If you're gonna do it again, you've got to do it fantastically well," said the star.

Big Brother debuted in 2000 and ran for 19 series, as well as 22 series of its all-star spin-off Celebrity Big Brother.
