Big Ed Looks Back on Showering with Rose's Dad — and a Rat — in 'Most Iconic Scene' in “90 Day Fiancé” 'History' (Exclusive)

For PEOPLE's 'Reality Rewatch,' the '90 Day Fiancé' star looked back on some of his most hilarious moments on the show

Big Ed has gotten himself into more than his fair share of sticky situations, but there's one experience in particular that stands out to the 90 Day Fiancé star as particularly odd.

On season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, Big Ed, 59, was engaged to Rosemarie, who was from the Philippines. During a visit to her home to meet her — and her family — for the first time, he took a shower with her father and another uninvited creature, in what he calls an "iconic scene" in the show's history.

"Probably the funniest part of this scene, believe it or not, was how much enjoyment Rose was getting in watching me suffer," Big Ed told PEOPLE for "Reality Rewatch" as he watched a clip of the episode, which aired in 2020.

In the clip, he was joined by Rose, who was 23, and her father, as they showered in the basement of their home. Rose had told him that it was normal for her family to shower together, and Big Ed was taken aback but went with it.

After a few minutes, he noticed a large rodent in the corner of the room and freaked out. "I'm showering with my future father-in-law — and showering with a rat."

"And I even asked Rose, I go, 'Is that a rat?' She goes, 'It’s a mouse,'" he continues. "She thought it was a mouse! I’m like, ‘Holy shit, if that’s a mouse, we’re screwed.'"

"That was probably my moment where I’m like, Oh my gosh, I’ve gotta — I didn’t wanna stay there another night," he says of Rose's family home.

"This was definitely the strangest experience of the entire season — showering with the dad and the rat scene. And it is my understanding that it is the most iconic scene in TLC history – for 90 Day Fiancé.”

Big Ed's trip to the Philippines marked his first time meeting Rose, who he was 31 years older than, and went on to propose to.

When he first saw where she and her family lived — in a home behind their store that was completely open to the outside — he had some major concerns.

"It’s all open up above, and they don’t really have a front door, it’s just kind of a curtain of paper CD covers. It’s all concrete with sheets hanging, covering, I guess to make it more homey," he said in a confessional. “I expected it to be pretty bad, but this is really bad."

The couple broke up within the same season — he had lied to her about his height, kept his vasectomy a secret and asked her to get an STD test, among other arguments — but were later able to make amends during a virtual reunion for 90 Day Bares All in February 2021.

Big Ed told Rose that she'd "helped" him "in so many ways," and she was "happy to accept" his apology.

"I'm very happy. I'm growing. I still have a lot to learn, but you admired me and you touched my heart – even though it didn't work out," he told her, adding, "You changed my life for the better."

He went on to get engaged to Liz Brown, who he met on The Single Life. However, the pair ultimately broke up before their wedding in the currently-airing season of Happily Ever After.
