Big Family Cooking Showdown puts sprouts... on a pizza
The BBC's Great British Bake Off replacement that isn't – The Big Family Cooking Showdown – returned for its second episode tonight (August 22) and it was just as warm and cozy as the first.
Tonight saw the Dawes family from Hampshire compete against the Karim family from West London in order to impress judges Giorgio Locatelli and especially Rosemary Shrager.
Rosemary in particular criticised the Karims for playing it too safe with two curry dishes in a row, but it could be argued that the Dawes went too far in the other direction...
Yup, taking a leaf out of the Mary Berry Everyday book, the Dawes served up a twist on a staple food that massively divided viewers: Brussel sprouts on pizza.
Some hated it:
This family on #BigFamilyCookingShowdown have ruined 🍕

Brussels sprouts on a pizza? #CookingShowdown
- WordsAndFlowers (@word_flowers) August 22, 2017
Why are these people ruining pizza? #CookingShowdown 😕

Brussels sprouts on a pizza is satanic. They are dead to me. #BigFamilyCookingShowdown

Some actually liked the idea:
#BigFamilyCookingShowdown I love sprouts, I think it would be good on a pizza. Sorry not sorry Rosemary.

Well I shared a ham'n'pineapple with my toddler today, so Brussels sprouts sounds quite sophisticated. #CookingShowdown #GoSam

Isn't is about personal taste? I think shredded sprouts would work on a pizza! #CookingShowdown

But one thing everyone seemed to agree on was the hosting duo of Nadiya Hussain and Zoe Ball:
Love @ZoeTheBall & @BegumNadiya on #BigFamilyCookingShowdown

One viewer in particular was very much on our wavelength:
Hi @BBCTwo how do I get a job going round to people's house to eat their food like the judges on #CookingShowdown?
- Fergus Boden (@fergusboden) August 22, 2017
Meanwhile, contestant Ellie Dawes tweeted along with the show and revealed what cookery show hopefuls eat whilst they watch themselves on TV:
We're cooking on tv so naturally we've deliverooed a kebab. #cookingshowdown #teamdawes

At the end of the episode, it was revealed that the Karim family will be going through to the semi-final. How will they fare? We'll have to wait and see!
The Big Family Cooking Showdown continues next Thursday on BBC Two.
