What are the biggest selling singles of 2023 so far?
Miley Cyrus’s break-up anthem Flowers is the bestselling single of the year so far, according to the Official Charts Company.
The data released on Tuesday also showed The Weeknd has the best-selling album of the year with his greatest hits collection The Highlights, which is actually two years old.
Flowers spent 10 weeks at number one earlier this year, clocking up 147 million streams and more than 80,000 downloads.
The emphasis on streaming allows songs to stick around in the chart for far longer than they used to when the figures were based on individual sales.
Raye’s song Escapism is the second bestselling of 2023, so far, while SZA’s Kill Bill is third.
The Highlights was released in 2021 and was followed by the release of The Weeknd’s fifth album, Dawn FM, last year. The second bestselling album was Taylor Swift’s 2022 album Midnights and third was Harry’s House by Harry Styles, which was also released last year.
The bestselling album released in 2023 was SZA’s SOS, which was fourth overall, but the chart was dominated otherwise by older albums and greatest hits.
