The Big Bang Theory is welcoming another big guest star to the show later this season as Microsoft founder Bill Gates will be making a cameo appearance as himself.

Following in the footsteps of other guest stars, including Stan Lee, Carrie Fisher, Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk and so many more before him, EW reveals that Gates is due to star in an episode next month in the US, and will see Penny (Kaley Cuoco) host the billionaire at her work while the guys pull out all the stops in a bid to meet him.

So, in true Big Bang style, we wouldn't be surprised if the episode ends with someone getting a restraining order.

The cameo marks the tech giant's (and current second-richest man in the world, just FYI) first appearance on the show, and his second TV appearance overall after having previously played himself in Frasier back in 2001.

The Big Bang Theory has been on air for a whopping 11 seasons, and the 12th was confirmed way back in March last year too, but it looks like the show's cast would be more than happy to stop after season 12, going by Johnny Galecki's comments earlier this year.

"The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping [the show] has been that we're all going to be very sad when that day comes," he said.

"But I think at this point everyone's very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families."

The Big Bang Theory returns with new episodes on Thursday, March 1 on CBS in the US. E4 airs the series in the UK.
