Liz’s family were said to be “devastated” after the 77-year-old Vera Duckworth actress passed away at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Penning a lengthy article in memory of his friend, Bill – who plays Ken Barlow in the ITV soap – called Liz “one of the most beautiful human beings” that he has ever met.
He wrote for The Sun: “She was kind. The first to help anybody in trouble. She was an absolute joy.
“The warmth and the humour that was in Vera came from Liz. You can see it. You can’t act that, it’s something in you that comes over.
“She was a very good professional actress and comedienne as well as being a very kind and lovable person.”
The 85-year-old star went on to praise Liz’s onscreen chemistry with Bill Tarmey, who played Jack Duckworth, dubbing it one of the “iconic, classic partnerships” in the soap.
He continued: “People identified with that and loved them for that and there was tremendous warmth, humanity and colossal humour.
“There was a deep-rooted love. She was always pushing Jack to get on and do something with his life.”
After news of Liz’s death broke, Coronation Street honoured the star in a heartfelt statement.
They shared: “We have been blessed to have Liz in our lives, as she was such a kind, considerate and caring friend and colleague.
“As Coronation Street’s Vera Duckworth for 34 years, Liz brought so much joy and happiness to so many. She was a wonderful actress who will forever be a true Coronation Street legend.”
