Billie Eilish recalls the shock of getting ghosted by a friend: 'Did you die?'

"To this day, never texted me again."

Celebrities, they’re just like us. They get ghosted too — and not even hitmaker Billie Eilish is an exception.

On Tuesday’s episode of the BBC podcast Miss Me, the “Birds of a Feather” singer revealed that fame has not made her immune to the disappearing jerks of the world. She told hosts Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver that she has "been ghosted for sure."

“I had a crazy ghosting happen actually in December,” Eilish confessed. “It was insane. It was probably the craziest one that's ever happened to me.”

With a laugh, she said that it was almost more serious than a ghosting because the silence made her worry for the person’s well-being: “I was like, 'Did you die? Did you literally die?,’” she recalls wondering.

The Grammy-winner explained, “It was somebody that I’d also known for years and had a plan. Day of, on the phone, making a plan, ‘this is my address, be there at 3’ — never heard from him again. Ever. I couldn’t believe it.”

Eilish continued, "I was like, 'What a f---ing little pathetic man. What a tiny little man.’”

While this prompted laughter from Oliver, Allen was incredulous. “I am in shock,” she told Eilish. “I can’t believe this.”

“It was literally unbelievable,” Eilish agreed. "To this day, never texted me again. Someone I had known for like, years!”

Eilish said she later learned that the guy in question started dating someone else: “And then I was like, ‘Oh.'"

Eilish — who previously dated rapper Brandon "Q" Adams, actor Matthew Tyler Vorce, and The Neighbourhood frontman Jesse Rutherford — has kept her dating life pretty lowkey over the years. In December 2023, she publicly came out as being attracted to both men and women after being asked about her sexuality during a red carpet Variety interview.

"I didn't realize people didn't know,” she joked at the time. Later, in an April cover story for Rolling Stone, Eilish admitted that she didn’t originally intend to discuss her sexuality with the public in that moment.

"Nobody should be pressured into being one thing or the other, and I think that there’s a lot of wanting labels all over the place,” she said. “I’ve known people that don’t know their sexuality, or feel comfortable with it, until they’re in their forties, fifties, sixties. It takes a while to find yourself, and I think it’s really unfair, the way that the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are.”
