Billie Eilish tributes women of “SNL” in moving montage during musical performance

Photos and videos of former and current female cast members played while the singer performed "What Was I Made For?" from "Barbie."

The women of Saturday Night Live got a moving shoutout during musical guest Billie Eilish's first performance on Saturday's show.

Eilish was introduced by the episode's host, SNL alum and Weird Barbie herself Kate McKinnon, alongside Barbie director Greta Gerwig for a performance of the blockbuster film's moving ballad, "What Was I Made For?" accompanied by the singer's brother and musical collaborator Finneas.

The montage featured home videos and unseen photos of Eilish as a child, plus past and present female cast members, including Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Punkie Johnson, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, and Chloe Troast, as well as Molly Kearney, who is nonbinary. Also featured in the footage were shots of McKinnon, and fellow SNL alums Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, who both made cameo's during Saturday's show.

The videos echoed a similar montage in the 2023 movie, in which footage of home movies played during the powerful song as Margot Robbie's Barbie experiences an existential crisis. The footage shown in Barbie featured all women who were family or friends of the film's cast and crew.

"What Was I Made For?" is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song, a Critics Choice Award for Best Song, and five Grammys, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Music Video.
