Bills-Steelers Playoff Game Postponed Due to Weather

The Buffalo Bills’ playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers has been postponed in the wake of an impending snowstorm. The game, which was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, will now air on Monday, Jan. 15, at 4:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the postponement Saturday afternoon in a news conference.

“Now, you may see clear skies [on Sunday] morning, but don’t be fooled,” Hochul said. “The bullseye of the storm is predicted to hit midday Sunday afternoon right during the scheduled Buffalo Bills game. … [The game will] continue to be played at Highmark Field right in Orchard Park. It’s all part of our critical efforts to keep New Yorkers, motorists and fans safe from this wildly unpredictable storm.”

Although Monday will likely be subject to harsh weather conditions as well, Hochul said that they “expect a very different weather dynamic.” This is the first time an NFL playoff game has been moved because of weather since 2016.

“As most know, there are hundreds of deputies, from not only the sheriff’s office, but others that assist on game day. They need to be assisting in the middle of a snowstorm, helping those in need, not directing traffic at a football stadium,” said Mark Poloncarz, Erie County executive. “None of us want to see that many vehicles on the road tomorrow morning trying to get to a football stadium knowing that the conditions are going to be as bad as they are.”

The Bills-Steelers playoff game will likely end just as the industry turns to Fox for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards at 8 p.m. ET. Nominees this year include hit television series “The Bear” and “Beef”; actors Pedro Pascal, Kieran Culkin, Bella Ramsay, Jenna Ortega and Jeremy Allen White; and reality shows from “The Voice” to “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
