Billy Ray Cyrus Claims He Was 'Physically,' Emotionally and Verbally Abused by Firerose, Denies Her Abuse Allegations

In a June 14 court filing, Firerose accused her ex of "extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse"

Billy Ray Cyrus alleges he has been abused by his estranged wife Firerose.

In new court documents filed in Tennessee from Monday, June 24 and obtained by PEOPLE, the "Achy Breaky Heart" hitmaker, 62, claims that he was "physically," verbally and emotionally abused by his ex and denies the "mind boggling" allegations that he was abusive toward her.

"While the Plaintiff would acknowledge that he was certainly vocal, frustrated and angry with the Defendant in May 2024, it is the plaintiff who, in fact, has been abused," the document reads. "Not only verbally and emotionally by the Defendant, but PHYSICALLY abused by Defendant."

In an affidavit, Scott Adkins, Cyrus' manager, claims he witnessed the abuse toward Cyrus.

Cyrus denied the Australian musician's abuse allegations made against him, including a note she allegedly left him after vacating their premarital residence that is provided as evidence which said "I am so sorry" and "Please give me a chance to make this right. I can explain everything but I need you on my side."

In his response to Firerose's complaint, the country star claims that after he questioned his ex over confusion surrounding her last name — one he had never heard before — she threatened to end his career if he tried to divorce her by telling the public he asked for a split because she needed a double mastectomy.

Cyrus also claims that Firerose has known about being a carrier for the BRCA1 gene mutation, which means she has an increased likelihood of developing breast cancer, for four years, but he was not made aware of it until after their marriage.

An unnamed rep for Firerose says that the only people supporting Cyrus' "false claims" are "on his payroll, whose credibility is questionable."

They added that "the audacity to question a BRCA-positive women’s decision to undergo a preventative surgery" shows the "cruel manipulation" she was subjected to by Cyrus. 

In documents filed on July 14, Firerose, 36, claimed that her estranged husband filed for divorce in May just one day prior to when she was set to undergo a preventative double mastectomy.

According to the complaint, Firerose was diagnosed as a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation in early 2020, and her doctors “highly recommended” she undergo a double mastectomy and reconstruction in March. She scheduled the first surgery for May 24.

As the date approached her home life became “chaos,” and Firerose claimed that Cyrus “continuously launched verbal assaults” at her while threatening to kick her out of their home and file for divorce, per the filing.

In the complaint, she alleged that Cyrus placed her “into an emotional and psychological prison” and that he would often call her "a selfish f---ing bitch" and say that she was using him.

Firerose said she was then “ambushed” with divorce papers on May 23, less than 24 hours before she was set to undergo her surgery.

On May 23, Cyrus filed for divorce after nearly seven months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct as reason for the split.

He also filed paperwork requesting an annulment due to fraud.

In her response, Firerose denied being guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, and accused Cyrus of acting inappropriately, saying she felt “unsafe” living with him.

On June 13, Cyrus filed an emergency motion seeking a temporary restraining order that would stop his ex from accessing his personal and business credit cards and accounts, alleging she spent nearly $100,000 of his income on “unauthorized” purchases after their split.

Firerose responded saying there was “no emergency” and that she’s had access to his credit card for the past two years.

“To claim Wife has made 37 unauthorized charges is untrue,” her attorneys wrote in the response filing, which was obtained by PEOPLE, adding that her "Husband has no right to cut her off.”
