Birmingham in 1990 - how different the city looked 34 years ago

1990 feels like yesterday - but, wait for it, it was 34 years ago. Back when Gazza was crying in an England shirt, 13 years before Jude Bellingham was even born, it was all very different.

We have gone through the Birmingham Mail archives to remind you how these parts looked when we were going into the 1990s. Some things look pretty familiar - the Rotuna, Martineau Galleries and the ICC are pretty much the same.

However, some things are VERY different. The Bullring as we know it now was nowhere to be seen, there was no Curzon Street HS2 development and, more than anything, Eastside was just nothing like the same.

Take a look through our gallery below...

Our photographers captured some great shots in the 1990s. The Birmingham Super Prix headed into the city, there were action shots of the ring road (see above) and one or two celebrity visits.

Check out the black and white image of New Street - not a mirror to be seen. We love a bit of nostalgia at BirminghamLive, once you've had a look through, check out how things looked like in 2000 after.
