Birmingham Airport fast track tickets double in price as queues continue

From the start of next month, Birmingham Airport passengers will have to pay an extra £13 for a fast track service that allows them to bypass queues on their return journey. The Premium Arrivals Fast Track service at BHX is set to increase from £7 to £20 as of July 1.

The price hike was announced by Birmingham Airport on its website. The service, which is available to any passenger flying into BHX arrivals with any airline, enables them to skip the queues and gain quicker access to passport control via a separate lane.

This change comes at a time when the airport is witnessing long queues of people in departures going through security for flights at certain times of the day.

For departing travellers, the airport also provides an Express Lane service, which offers customers a faster lane through security. This service costs £5 per person when booked online or £7.50 when purchased at the airport on the day.

On the other hand, the Premium Arrivals Fast Track is intended to make passengers' arrival at Birmingham Airport 'as smooth and as easy as possible'. Birmingham Airport clarified that the Arrivals Fast Track service is a UK Border Force, Government product and therefore prices are not determined by the airport, reports Birmingham Live.

It added that the airport was notified of the price increases in March.

Pre-booking online is the only way to secure vouchers for the Arrivals Fast Track, and these must be purchased at least 24 hours before arrival. Unfortunately, you can't buy them at the airport on the day, and any cancelled tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Children can use the service, but they need to be booked as an additional person with their own unique booking reference. Every passenger needs their own barcode to access the Fast Track lane.

Once you arrive at Birmingham Airport, if you've booked the Arrivals Fast Track service, just follow the signs for Premium Fast Track and scan your barcode on the automatic gate. You can show this on your mobile phone or as a printed copy.

You can then head straight through to the Border Force desk and follow standard border control and passport checks before being allowed into the baggage reclaim area. The service is subject to availability and ticket bookings are limited to 50 tickets per hour to keep queuing time down to between 5 and 15 minutes.
