Birmingham Perry Barr has been won by independent candidate Ayoub Khan as the results for the area were announced in the UK General Election. Mr Khan secured 13,303 votes to snatch the seat away from Labour in a tight race.

Labour's Khalid Mahmood came second with 12,796 votes, leaving Mr Khan with a majority of just 507 in the seat. Birmingham Perry Barr had eight candidates standing to be MP in the area - the seat had been held by Labour ever since they won it from the Conservatives in 1974.

Perry Barr is home to the Alexander Stadium and the new Perry Barr housing development - which is still fenced off almost five years since building work began. Prior to the election, locals expressed frustration at a lack of any real 'legacy' from the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
