Birmingham Yardley has been retained by Labour in a close contest with the Workers' Party in the UK General Election. Jess Phillips secured 11,275 votes in the seat - winning with 31% of the vote.

Workers' Party candidate Jody McIntyre came second with 10,582 votes, leaving Phillips with a 50.3% majority. Birmingham Yardley has been held by The Labour Party since 2015 - having previously been a Liberal Democrat seat.

Yardley is one of the Birmingham seats where Independent candidates were expected to take votes off Labour, capitalising on the party's much-criticised stance on Gaza. When BirminghamLive visited the area prior to the election, residents said they had become 'fed-up' with politicians and held little faith things would change in their area, irregardless of who won the election.

The turnout was 50.3%.

Who won Birmingham Yardley in 2019?

Labour won the seat in 2019 with Jess Phillips returned with 23,379 votes - with the Conservatives' second with 12,720 votes. From 2020-2023, Jess Phillips served as Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding in Keir Starmer's Opposition frontbench.

In November 2023, Phillips quit the role to call for a ceasefire in Gaza saying the party had some "searching" to do following its underperformance in areas with a high Muslim population during local elections. Speaking to BirminghamLive prior to the vote, Phillips said she would focus on tackling homelessness and improving the state of local streets if elected.
