Bishop of Dorchester, Gavin Collins, and Rector Jane Willis, are to abseil down Dorchester Abbey's tower during a cultural festival on May 4.

Bishop Collins will confront his fear of heights after inaugurating the festival, now in its 10th year.

The brave pair are part of an adventurous fundraising team, aiming to gather £50,000 for two charities: Dorchester Abbey and Restore, a mental health charity based in Oxfordshire.

The festival features 64 events, including performances by global classical group The Tallis Scholars, Olivier award-winning Showstopper!, and folk singer Sam Kelly.

Other highlights include Michelin guide chefs conducting cookery demonstrations, a walk on custard science exhibit by Revd Willis, and a reflective art workshop.

The festival, promising something for everyone, also offers art exhibits, children's workshops, a dog show, and a two-day food and gift fair.
