There will be diversions near the Black Cat Roundabout during works to create a new cycling and walking route as part of a redevelopment of the road between Milton Keynes and Cambridge. The diversions will be in place from Monday, July 8.

The cycleway and footway will be closed and the diversion put in place. A National Highways spokesperson said the diversion will make the journey approximately five minutes longer for cyclists and 15 minutes for pedestrians.

They said: "The diversion will run eastward along the A1198 Ermine Street, avoiding our worksites and re-joining the road at Brockley Road." The new route will open in spring 2027.

The full scheme covers the area from the A428 Black Cat roundabout to Caxton Gibbet. A new 10-mile dual carriageway will connect the Black Cat roundabout and Caxton Gibbet roundabout.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The new dual carriageway will cut congestion on the existing road, removing the temptation for drivers to use local roads to avoid delays. Our plans will mean there will be up to 4,000 less cars on local roads.

"We will maintain biodiversity and improve air and noise quality for communities. The scheme includes safe crossing points for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and reconnections for disrupted rights of way."
