Black Mirror trailer: Miley Cyrus joins starry line up for fifth season of Netflix hit

Netflix has unveiled a star-studded trailer for the fifth season of dystopian anthology series Black Mirror.

The teaser clip for the brand new episodes, which are set to land on the streaming platform next month, features Miley Cyrus, Fleabag star Andrew Scott and Avengers’ Anthony Mackie.

Netflix has described the latest instalment as containing “three new stories about the future we should have seen coming.”

Though plot details are scarce, the new season promises another look at the darker side of technology and its impact on our collective psyche.

According to an official synopsis, each stand-alone episode will provide “a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion.”

The trailer offers fans a brief glimpse at a handful of storylines, with Cyrus donning a short lilac wig to play a futuristic pop star. A smart speaker in her likeness also appears in another scene, with one character describing it as a “poison.”

Scott appears to play a man who is enraged by society’s addiction to smartphones, with his anger ultimately resulting in a violent confrontation.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin will also appear in the new episodes, created by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones.

Brooker and Jones launched fully interactive spin-off film Bandersnatch on Netflix last December, providing fans with a ground-breaking choose-your-own-adventure format.

The feature length episode starred Fionn Whitehead and Will Poulter and was nominated for the Single Drama trophy at last week’s BAFTA TV Awards, but lost out to BBC3’s Killed By My Debt.
