Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Letitia Wright has confirmed that Marvel fans will have to wait a bit longer than anticipated to see a third outing of the superhero flick.

Letitia's Shuri took over the mantle of Black Panther in the most recent outing of the film series in the wake of King T'Challa's death, and previously teased to fans last month that a third movie was "already in the works".

She added at the time: "We need a little bit of a break, we need to regroup, and [director] Ryan [Coogler] needs to get back into his lab, so it's going to take a little while, but we're really excited for you guys to see that."

But now, the star has clarified what she meant.

"What I tried to say, maybe I didn't do it clearly enough, to clarify, there is always the hope that you would have another film, especially in a franchise," she told BuzzFeed at the Newport Beach Film Festival UK Honours event last week.

"If there is to be another film, which I hope there will be, I think there will be. It takes time to make it. You have to go through the script process."

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever became the most-watched Marvel premiere on Disney+ when it landed on the streaming platform earlier this month, while Angela Bassett made history by being the first actor to receive an Oscar nomination for a MCU role.

It's not the only Marvel film to set a new record recently.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania matched an unwanted record set by Marvel's Eternals, becoming the joint worst-rated MCU movie on Rotten Tomatoes after earning a critics' score of 47%.
