Voters in Blackpool will head out today on polling day to give their verdict after weeks of political campaigning.

Polling stations open from 7am until 10pm with ballot boxes positioned in a variety of venues including sports clubs, churches and community centres. Information on the polling card will direct people to where they should go to cast their vote, and everyone must take a form of photo ID with them such as a driving licence or passport.

People can vote as long as they are in the queue by 10pm, and while a mobile phone can be taken into the polling station it is not allowed to take photographs inside. Dogs must generally be left outside, unless they are assistance dogs but people can bring their children with them although they are not allowed to mark the ballot paper.

Assistance for those who need it includes availability of large print sample ballot papers, and a tactile voting device to help if you have a visual impairment. You can ask polling station staff for help, or you can bring someone with you. Anyone over the age of 18 can go along to help you cast your vote. They don’t need to be eligible to vote in that election.

Blackpool South

Labour candidate Chris Webb is defending a majority of 7,607 after being MP for only four weeks after his election at the Blackpool South by-election in May when turnout was 32 per cent.

The full list of candidates is:

  • Stephen Black (Independent)

  • Mark Butcher (Reform UK)

  • Andrew Cregan (Liberal Democrat)

  • Zak Khan (Conservative)

  • Kim Knight (Alliance for Democracy and Freedom)

  • Ben Thomas (Green)

  • Chris Webb (Labour)

The Conservatives – who had won the seat from Labour at the 2019 General Election – came second at the by-election, but were only just ahead of Reform UK.

Blackpool North and Fleetwood

Paul Maynard has represented Blackpool North and Cleveleys since 2010 for the Conservatives, and held onto the seat with an 8,596 majority in 2019. But changes to the boundaries mean the constituency now covers Blackpool North and Fleetwood which could see it change hands.

The full list of candidates is:

  • Dan Barker (Reform UK)

  • Lorraine Beavers (Labour)

  • Jan Cresswell (Social Democratic Party)

  • Gita Gordon (Independent)

  • Bill Greene (Liberal Democrat)

  • Paul Maynard (Conservative)

  • Tina Rothery (Green Party)

  • James Antony Rust (Official Monster Raving Loony Party)
