A Blind Date contestant was stood up by his match, leaving host Paul O’Grady to step in and save the day at the last minute.

Unlucky Conor from Preston was picked by Rosie from Kent in last Saturday’s episode of the show but ended up becoming the second contestant in the show's history to be stood up.

Rosie failed to turn up for their mountain biking trip in Wales, leaving Conor at something of a loose end.

O’Grady is set to dish the dirt on what happened in this weekend’s programme, teasing: "I couldn’t leave one of our contestants all alone on their date, so I stepped in to lend a helping hand. Tune in to find out what I did."

A Blind Date hopeful has only been stood up once before in the show’s history.

Back in 1997, a contestant called David arrived at the airport ready for a romantic getaway, only to find his date was a no-show, leaving him to holiday with the production crew instead.

Blind Date was revived in 2017 after a 14-year hiatus with O’Grady as host and Mel Sykes as voiceover.

The dating series had previously run from 1985-2003 when it was famously fronted by Cilla Black.

Blind Date continues Saturday, January 20 at 8pm on Channel 5.
