A five-year-old Emirati boy has been crushed to death under the wheels of a school bus as he waited for his neighbours, UAE daily newspaper The National has reported.
Now Sharjah police have said both the bus driver and the child’s parents are to blame for the incident, which happened at about 1pm on Thursday.
Lt Col Ahmed bin Darwish, head of the patrol department at Sharjah Police said: "This accident is a joint responsibility between the driver, who should have been more alert, and the parents, who left the boy on the road without supervision."
He said the boy, who had been standing behind one of the private school bus’ wheels, was crushed to death as the driver maneuvered the vehicle.
The man, who was identified as being of South Asian origin, rushed the child to the nearby Kuwaiti Hospital, but the boy was pronounced dead on arrival, the report added.
The man was subsequently detained.
