Blue pinwheels placed around Tyler symbolizing child abuse awareness, prevention

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Over 200 blue pinwheels were planted around Tyler by the Children’s Advocacy Center and other agencies to shed light on child abuse and prevention.

Officials urge people to do their research before voting in May’s election

April is child abuse awareness and prevention month and pinwheels became the universal symbol to bring awareness to child abuse.

“Pinwheels are beautiful and childhood should be beautiful and they should represent kids growing up and just having a normal, happy, beautiful life playing like most children do,” Tonya Fuller, a specialist with the Department of Family and Protective Services, said.

According to the advocacy center, it is their goal each year to reduce the number of pinwheels seen in the community.

“This month, as you see blue pinwheels intentionally placed around our community, use them as a reminder to encourage, support and connect families to resources to help them thrive,” a release said.
