Blue Ridge Mountains Obscured by Wildfire Smoke

Smoke from hundreds of wildfires burning in Canada hung in the eastern United States’ atmosphere on Tuesday, June 6, posing a risk to sensitive groups in parts of North Carolina, the state Division of Air Quality Forecast Center (NCDAQ) warned.

Twitter user @gradyryan1 said he filmed this footage outside of Boone on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina Tuesday afternoon. A red-level air-quality alert was in effect at this time, NCDAQ said.

The National Weather Service recommended that sensitive groups avoid prolonged outdoor activity Tuesday, as significant concentrations of “near-surface smoke” were expected. Credit: @gradyryan1 via Storyful
