Viewers were amused as a technical blunder saw a BBC studio filled with flashing disco lights.

A clip from regional show Look North was shared online on Thursday morning and showed the lights running around the ceiling flashing on and off in different colours.

The glitch started up while Clare Frisby was in the middle of a broadcast.

However, she held her nerve and calmly said: “Apologies for the flashing disco lights.”

The funny moment was shared by the BBC’s Abbie Dewhurst.

She tweeted a clip of the hilarious light show, saying: “It's Thursday but the BBC Look North studio very much thinks it's Friday.

“Slight technical issue this morning handled with perfection by the ever professional @ClareFrisby.”

She added emojis of some dancing people and a disco ball to her post.

Presenter Frisby retweeted the clip, joking: “Always a party at Breakfast.”

Fans were tickled by the whole thing, with some sharing GIFs and memes on Twitter of people dancing under strobes.

“Get the drum & bass music on,” one suggested.

Another said it was “very disco looking”.

“Well done Clare,” said one person, who was impressed with the way the TV star handled the disruption.

"Odds on, it was a duff DMX amplifier!" said one. "Been there, swapped that!"

BBC Look North has been providing plenty of giggles of late, with viewers in fits last week after the show inadvertently aired a cheeky joke about a vacuum cleaner.

The programme had asked people to share what their oldest household appliances were – and got more than it bargained for when one person sent in a snap of an ancient vacuum that he said “blows as well as sucks”.
