Bob Marley fans get 'chills' as trailer for One Love biopic is released

The film celebrates the life and music of the singing legend

Bob Marley fans have said the trailer for the new biopic about the late star has given them “chills”, with some predicting it will be the “movie of the year” in 2024.

The teaser for One Love – which celebrates the life and career of the late singer – was unveiled on Thursday (6 July), and the film will be out in January.

Made in partnership with the Marley family, it follows the singer (played by Kingsley Ben-Adir) and his music and life, including the assassination attempt he and his wife Rita (Lashana Lynch) survived in 1976.

As the first look was released, Marley’s son Ziggy posted a moving message on Twitter telling fans the film “will bring you to witness for the first time what it was like to be around the legend, to see his pain his sorrows his joys and his redemption”.

He said it was hoped One Love would inspire Marley’s long-timer fans “but also the younger generation, giving them a vehicle that opens the door to explore Bob’s life and music and in so doing expand his universal message of unification, justice and peace throughout the Earth”.

Fans flocked to Twitter within minutes of the trailer’s release, saying they could not wait to see the full feature in January.

“Already movie of the year... The greatest artist of all time…” one person tweeted.

“Got chills the whole time,” said another.

One said: “It's about time Bob Marley got a proper life story tribute film. One Love looks like a celebration of a fantastic artist.”

“The movie of the century!!!!!” predicted somebody else.

One fan said they thought the movie would be “epic”.

“This is how you tell your story and see how incredible strong and brave this great lion and his wife Leona Rita Marley were… I am ready One Love,” said another.

Marley died in 1981 at the age of 36, after fighting cancer.
