Body found in Annie Dryden search after she went missing four months ago

Police searching for missing Annie Dryden have confirmed that they have discovered a body.

Annie, 20, from Middlesborough, was last seen in January and police launched a major search for her. She was last seen getting off a train at Battersby in North Yorkshire at 2.38pm on Thursday, January 4.

She had boarded at James Cook Train Station in Middlesbrough at 2.09pm. Her family made a desperate plea for her to return home as moorland was searched and the hunt spread as far as London.

But four months on and police today confirmed that a body was discovered at around 1.12pm in woodland near to Battersby in North Yorkshire. North Yorkshire Police said formal identification is yet to take place, but Annie's family have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

Although it is in the early stages, the death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Thank you to everyone who shared our appeals and called in with information - our thoughts are with Annie’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."
