A body has been discovered in the River Don near Kemnay in the search for missing Aberdeenshire grandmother Hazel Nairn.

The 71-year-old was swept into the river back in November 2022 when severe flooding hit the north-east of Scotland - the body of her dog was found five days later but there was no sign of Hazel.

Today, May 7, police released a statement confirming that the grandmother's family have been informed after the remains of a woman were found.

It reads: "The remains of a woman were recovered from the River Don near Kemnay, Inverurie, around 1.20pm on Tuesday, May, 7, 2024.

"Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of Hazel Nairn, 71, who was last seen near to Monymusk on Friday, 18 November, 2022, have been informed.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
