A body found during the search for Dr Michael Mosley has been removed from Symi island on a boat. Five firefighters left the island with the body, which has yet to be formally identified, on a stretcher at around 2.45pm local time (12.45pm UK time), having arrived 35 minutes earlier.

Two young men watched from the bright blue waters and another group continued to play with a football as the white motorboat drove off. One jumped into the sea chasing the ball. Holidaymakers clad in swimwear crowded along Agia Marina's stone wall overlooking the sea and some filmed the scene, reports the Press Association.

The discovery was made on Sunday morning close to a bar at Agia Marina. Search teams on a boat, alongside the island's mayor and members of the press, spotted it from the water before those on land went to the scene.

Dr Mosley disappeared on Wednesday after going for a walk alone during a holiday with his wife. A wide-scale search effort was undertaken before the discovery was made close to a fence near the sea.
