Authorities announced that a body found in Massachusetts belonged to a man who had been missing since September.

On Saturday, the Norfolk District Attorney's Office confirmed the remains are those of Keith McKechnie, 45.

McKechnie was later found by a relative in the well located on his residence in Avalon, authorities added. Family members confirmed his identity at the scene.

The statement noted that Avon Police and Avon Fire were involved in the recovery of McKechnie's body from the well.

“No obvious signs of trauma were observed by officials on scene, including Massachusetts State Police homicide investigators assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s office,” the statement continued.

In a separate news statement released on Monday, the district attorney’s office said that the medical examiner completed its autopsy on McKechnie Sunday.

“While toxicology and other testing may remain outstanding for some time, the initial indications of the autopsy did not suggest foul play contributing to Mr. McKechnie’s death,” per the announcement.

District Attorney Michael Morrissey offered his condolences, saying in an earlier press release: “Our thoughts are very much with the McKechnie family tonight. This is a very sad result.”

According to the Avon Police Department, McKechnie left his home on Sept. 7 and did not return.

“Keith’s family reports that he has a history of health challenges and may be resistant to being approached,” police noted in their statement on Wednesday.

The department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Authorities also said that McKechnie was known to walk around the neighborhood.

Prior to the confirmation of the identity of the body, police announced Saturday that they were conducting a search in a wooded area on the property of a home.

“At this time, the search efforts are focused on an old well on the property that had been previously visually searched,” police said in a statement.

Christine Connolly, a cousin of the victim, said that the family made calls for the well to be examined. "We felt something nefarious happened because Keith didn’t have his wallet, cell phone or his glasses," Connolly told NBC affiliate WBTS. "The glasses were found by the well on the ground. We were told that they had determined due to the size of the well and Keith’s build, he wouldn’t fit."
