Body of man, 87, found in grounds of primary school on New Year's Day

The body of a man was discovered at an Oxfordshire primary school on New Year's Day.

Police said the body of an 87-year-old man was found at St Leonard's School in Banbury on 1 January.

The school had been closed for the Christmas holidays.

Thames Valley Police said the body of a male was found at the school in the Grimsbury area of the town.

Officers were called to the scene on Sunday afternoon after the discovery was reported. The school is located close to the M40 motorway.

The force said the death is not being treated as suspicious but is unexplained.

In a statement posted on Twitter on Sunday, Thames Valley Police said: "Officers have been on scene at St Leonard’s School, Grimsbury, this afternoon.

"This is after the sad report that the body of a male has been found. The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious."

Thames Valley Police told Yahoo News UK on Tuesday they were called to the school at about 1.50pm on New Year's Day.

The force said the man who was found was 87 years old.
