Bodycam Footage Shows Police Officer Shooting 11-Year-Old

Bodycam footage showed the moment an 11-year-old boy was shot by a police office at his home in Indianola, Mississippi, in 2023.

According to Mississippi Today, police responded to Aderrien Murry’s home on May 20, 2023, when his mother Nakala asked him to call the police. The report said her ex-boyfriend showed up at the house and displayed worrying behavior.

Upon arrival, “Officer Greg Capers fired his weapon as Aderrien entered the room, hitting the boy in the chest.”

Mississippi Free Press reported that the boy was hospitalized for five days “for a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, and a lacerated liver.”

Footage released by Mississippi Department of Public Safety shows a police officer arrive at the house, bang the door open, and ask everyone to get out. Later in the video, the officer can be seen shooting someone as that person enters a room.

A grand jury found “there was no criminal conduct of behalf of Capers,” and no further action would be taken by the attorney general’s office, WJTV reported.

Murry’s mother filed a $5 million federal lawsuit against Indianola, the police chief, and Capers, stating that “Indianola failed to properly train the officer and the officer used excessive force,” according to WJTV. Credit: Mississippi Department of Public Safety via Storyful
