Bond reduced for man accused of killing roommate over Pop-Tart

OZARK, Ala (WDHN) — An Ozark man accused of hitting his roommate with a pipe after a “heated” argument has received a $20,000 bond reduction.

In early April, 59-year-old Daryl Miley was arrested and charged with one count of manslaughter after Ozark Police Investigators claimed he hit 63-year-old Billy Joe Maynard with a metal pipe, eventually causing his death.

After his arrest, Maynard was initially facing a $50,000 bond. He asked for a reduction, which was granted during a hearing Tuesday afternoon.

Judge Stanley Garner reduced Maynard’s bond to $30,000.

According to Ozark Police, Miley hit Maynard with the metal pipe in his torso after an argument over “an alleged pop tart theft.”

Police say after Maynard died at Dale Medical Center from his injuries, Miley confessed during an interview with investigators.
